Greetings from Washington DC,
Today we have the Moon in early degrees of Scorpio. Over the next approximately 8 hours, the Moon applies a square to its ruler Mars in Leo, then about 3 hours after that, Moon applies a trine to Neptune in Pisces.
The Moon is in its fall in Scorpio. Ancient astrologers classified the Scorpio Moon this way because the Moon’s function is to create the conditions for growth and flourishing by magnetizing the nutrients necessary for lush expansion to happen. However, Scorpio is the sign of elimination, and being ruled by Mars creates a cutting sensation. In one expression of Scorpio, harvesting growth is challenging when the instinctual response is to scythe away the plants before they’ve had time to root into the soil. Another expression of Scorpio shows the transformative face of the sign, which insists the chamomile seed grows into a sunflower plant, and fully expects this to occur. Björk once said about her Scorpio stellium that she dies every night and is born anew in the morning.
With so much Leo in the sky remember that the Sun experiences a similar process of transformation. Even the Sun gradually disappears at the onset of nightfall each day. Every day we look forward to the bright beams of the Sun gracing the skies again, whether it’s cloudy or clear out.
This predictability in sequence represents a kind of affinity with Scorpio and the Sun. In both signs we find the theme of maintaining and sustaining even through a predictable process of transformation and rebirth.
With the Moon’s approaching square to Mars over the next several hours, this process of transformation is potently catalyzed.
Images for Moon square Mars:
* A hooded woman in black slides a knife across her tongue
* A deep sense of strong desire forces an action
* An alliance is energized into existence via human or divine will power
* A man and a woman support each other (Moon in Mars’ triplicity and face when the square perfects)
* A conflict roiling beneath the surface, finds an avenue for eruption. Out in the open, healing is possible.
* The piercing gaze of desire
* Relentless focus applied
* A muscular man prays over his food
* Powerful women encourage and affirm each other
* A flamboyant display allows the conditions for revelation of something hidden
Then as the night wraps here in the NorHem, close to midnight the Moon carries its connection with Mars over to Neptune by trine. This softens what might have been a challenging confrontation earlier in the day, whether internal or external, uncovers a sense of grace. and reminds that there is a soothing song playing beyond perception. This song serves as balm for our Sun-Saturn weary hearts.
Sun and Saturn can be the meeting of age with youth, of maturity with youthful exuberance, of the realization of how drastically we have changed and how drastically we have yet to change. The still point of this aspect is being okay with all manner of death. The death of a part of ourselves we might have wanted to cling to tightly. Developing okayness with creating space for the new dimensions of ourselves that want to come through and that will come through over the coming months.
It’s a good day to travel within and find the images and answers that unfurl in that dark infinite space. Mercury leaves an exact opposition to Chiron, the Moon in Scorpio thrives in the ancient lakes of the inner spaces, and the Sun shines a light on the structural supports of our lives.
The next 24 hours are a critical pivot point in this month’s Moon cycle. Not only do we receive the 1st quarter square Moon, but the Moon joins Saturn for this square, and the Sun is in the sign of its rulership. This is a very bright, sobering, and motivating light on Saturn’s passage through Scorpio, which wraps up for another 28 years on September 17th.
“At the still point of the turning world. Neither flesh nor fleshless;
Neither from nor towards; at the still point, there the dance is,
But neither arrest nor movement. And do not call it fixity,
Where past and future are gathered. Neither movement from nor towards,
Neither ascent nor decline. Except for the point, the still point,
There would be no dance, and there is only dance.
I can only say, there we have been: but I cannot say where.
And I cannot say, how long, for that is to place it in time.”
T.S. Eliot, Burnt Norton
