Mercury entered Capricorn December 9th 2015 and will remain in the sign through January 1, 2016.

Mercury will remain in Capricorn for  just about 3 weeks — flying through the sign before stationing retrograde on January first. When the planets move fast, so do the earthly affairs with which they are associated.

In the case of Mercury in Capricorn, disposed of by Saturn in Sagittarius which is in turn disposed of by Jupiter in Virgo which is in turn disposed of by Mercury ; ) , this speed has to do with organizing a vision, saying only what you truly mean, and grounding big schemes into real life.

Not any kind of grounding will do, this must be grounding based on deliberation and authenticity. Consider this, if you will. In the Internet age, we are all public speakers. We are all orators. We all have the ability to reach tens, if not hundreds, if not thousands, if not millions around the world with the content we share on the internet. Therefore we should consider the extent to which we all have a responsibility in what we share with others. Taking time for this consideration is practicing good citizenship in communicating. It might be a heavy thing to realize, but it comes with the territory of playing on the Internet. And if you say that you never asked for that responsibility, I say that there are a lot of things that happened in the past couple of centuries that no one of us ever asked for, but which we all have to deal with as a part of an interconnected global world.

Mercury in Capricorn expects something solid to come out of its talk. If you say you desire something, Mercury in Capricorn says, what are you going to do about it? What’s your plan? When are you executing? What’s your deadline? Who are you going to talk to, when are you going to call them, what are you doing  with the information, what will you make, show it to me. Can I touch what you’re thinking? Can I read it? Can I see what is going on in your head with something happening, something appearing here before my eyes? Thoughts are things to Mercury in Capricorn.

In a natal chart, Mercury is one of the most important planets because it is the communicator of the needs and expressions of the rest of the planets, assuming they all belong to you. More generally, through Mercury in Capricorn, all of the deep transformation underway over the past couple of months as the Saturn square Neptune aspect picked up potency will now be given purposeful consideration and communication.

This Mercury takes control of the  mind, the words, and what is allowed into the ears and eyes and let out of the mouth.  Thinking now has a sense of gravity and seriousness.  There is a sense of responsibility around speech. There is a felt sense of being sure to say only what is meant. There is now the possibility to direct the personal attitude and begin a new thinking regime. Consider ideas with discrimination, with intention, with practical reality in mind. As always, intention matters deeply.

Above all with this Mercury, there is a strong ability to get it done. With Mercury moving so quickly for the rest of the month before the retrograde, make the calls you need to make, have the conversations, make your art, think ahead, write the plan, have a goal in mind, execute on it. Have a notepad near you to take note of all the ideas and what comes out of the conversations you have.

Notes on Mercury through all three decans of Capricorn drawing from images in Latin Picatrix as delineated in Austin Coppock’s 36 Faces:

Mercury in Capricorn Decan 1 —  Dec 9-16  :   Recognizing weakness in all forms and transforming it into smart, skilled action.
Mercury in Capricorn Decan 2 — Dec 16 – 22 :  Seeking the answer to an impossible riddle, perhaps chancing on portions of its truth.
Mercury in Capricorn Decan 3 — Dec 22 – Jan 1:   Intelligently executing on skill.
