The throne room of Queen Isabella and King Ferdinand of Spain.

‘The motto “Tanto Monta, Monta Tanto” appeared on the Spanish Royal Standard of the Catholic Kings from  1492-1506. The motto refers to both Catholic monarchs: Isabella and Ferdinand and loosely translates to: “As much as the one is worth, so much is the other” meaning that both King and Queen held equal authority.’

This week the Sun has entered Aquarius and will start a new life-cycle with both Jupiter and Saturn. The new cycle begins when the Sun conjoins either of these outer planets within a degree.

The cazimi is not visible to the naked eye because the planet is hidden behind the beaming light rays of the Sun. The nearness of the Sun to Jupiter or Saturn would not be visible until the Sun is well past its proximity to these planets ( about15-16 degrees depending on the brightness of the planet and other considerations like atmospheric conditions).

This moment when this planetary communion by conjunction is exact is called the cazimi. If you have been around here for a while or a student of traditional astrology you will be familiar with that term. The cazimi initiates the new life-cycle which carries its own theme. This theme continues to unfold, mutating in its expression at each of the pivotal points of the cycle, until the two planets once again meet in the same sign and the same degree a year later in the case of Saturn and Jupiter.

The Synodic Cycle of Saturn

The Saturn life-cycle can center around a number of themes. It may have to do with themes of commitment, maturity, growth that requires accepting a limitation and working around it or with it. The cazimi moment itself can be a period of time when the mind is uncommonly clear, focused, and capable of rare concentration. It’s the yogi who meditates on a single object until they see into the heart of the object, into its essence, understanding every facet of the object, then moves beyond the concept of the object.

The Synodic Cycle of Jupiter

The Jupiter life-cycle this year is initiated on the Full Moon also at 9 degrees in dramatic, principled, and courageous Leo. I always like to make it a point to say that the Moon brings the symbolism of the planets it is aligning with into material form. The Jupiter cazimi can have to do with themes of growth of an Aquarian variety: inventions, human connection and human relationships, social issues, big data and data analysis, technology of the future, spiritual/political/social commitments especially if they are rooted in a philosophy or belief system that one is loyal to. It is typically the moment we start to consider a new growth venture of some variety, whether that is a spiritual practice or a material opportunity.

The Cazimi Moment

During the cazimi seed moment, the planets are said to be in the heart of the Sun or in the Heart of the King. It’s like being in the throne room at the court of the monarch; it is to be in the nucleus of power—merged with it. Having an audience with a person of great power provides a prized opportunity to accomplish an objective, or to learn about how the monarch thinks about things from their point of view. Taking a symbolic view of this, panning out to its broadest possible expression, this connection is really about contacting that sacred life force that is tireless and eternally effusive, that as Paramahansa Yogananda says we can all connect with and allow to guide our thoughts, plans, and actions.

“Use constructively the power you already have, and more will come. Tune yourself with Cosmic Power. Then you will possess the creative power of Spirit. You will be in contact with Infinite Intelligence, which can guide you and solve all problems. Power from the dynamic Source of your being will flow through you so that you will be creative in the world of business, the world of thought, or the world of wisdom.”

The cazimi moment is both a seed moment and a moment of purification. It is as if all of the dross of the planet’s significations is cleared, all of its communications with the agendas of other planets are suspended and the planet is there held in the light of its purest form. We can commune with it at this time in this condition and get a sense of what it wants and also guide what we want in relation to it.

Track the Synodic Cycle in Your life in 2021!

This year, I invite you to track the life cycle of the planet in your own life. You can use the worksheet below as a guide. Over the course of the year I will send e-mail reminders when the planets are making a key angle over the course of the year. However, the dates of these planetary cycles are logged below for your convenience.

Keep a planetary life-cycle journal. Use physical paper and pencil/pen just for this purpose. Even a journal! Writing by hand has more life-force of truth and creative power behind it.

Journal around the dates of the key planetary angles with the Sun shown below. Start this week with the cazimi of both Jupiter and Saturn.

What is going on in your life now? What is happening in your inner world? What is foremost on your mind?

At each of the subsequent key dates, journal about the what is happening in your inner world and outer life. Look back on the theme you noted at the cazimi and see if there is a thread that is weaving through the narrative of this planet’s cycle with the Sun, weaving a story in your life together. Note if these dates coincide with any key developme
