Are We Now in the Age of Aquarius?

Aquarius from the Hevelius,Firmamentum, 1690. With thanks to Constellations of Words for the image.

World cultures have been dividing periods of time since time immemorial. There is the Mayan calendar and the Vedic concept of Yugas, for example.  According to one calculation in the Vedas, we are currently in the Kali Yuga, an age of darkness, where we unfortunately are dealing with the consequences of forgetting our own profound brilliance and completeness as humans, as well as our connection to each other and to the rest of the earth and its flora and fauna.

The Mayan calendar ended in 2012. (dramatic pause)

So when I started my research to answer the question, are we now in the age of aquarius, I came upon more questions than answers. There are different ways of calculating these ages, and astrologers don’t necessarily agree on one calculation. I thought the answer would be straightforward – when on the Spring equinox the sun rises in the constellation of Aquarius, at 29 degrees, then we can say we are in the Age of Aquarius. But it’s actually not that straightforward. There are many other things to consider, like the fact that the constellations are actually not all the same size, but as western astrologers we divide the twelve zodiac signs into neat thirty-degree sections of sky.

In exploring this question there are these types of matters to consider, and I will be researching this topic further. If you’re interested in this topic, you might enjoy this (remarkably astrology friendly) earth-sky article that kicked off my research.

The answer to the question might exist on subtler planes than the mathematical or observable. I became interested in the great ages because I’ve been reading a lot of Barbara Hand Clow material in which she puts great emphasis on these two-millenia long groupings of time. I recently finished her trilogy of fiction books, and as Venus was crossing the South Node in Sagittarius, I found myself reading a book she wrote about her past lives.

In this book she describes stories from her past lives that she recalled during her experience doing over 100 past life regressions. According to Hand Clow, these lives span over 100,000 years, covering many millennia of history. It’s truly fascinating. She describes her experience as a member of ancient and sometimes lost civilizations like the Minoans, ancient Egyptians, and Mayans.

What’s interesting is that when she was exploring her life as a Minoan Priestess for the Goddess, she described the rituals appropriate to the seasonal changes, including the cross quarters. You might remember I asked about this at the beginning of the Fall, right around the Equinox. So I found myself smiling as I noted this particular passage that was one direct answer to that question that I had.

So as an important note! I want to re-emphasize again, that any question sincerely held in the heart, and asked (out loud or written by hand I think is the trick), will receive a response one way or another. There is just no way it can’t. Our consciousness is interwoven with the consciousness of everything else. When we ask a question, it sounds out vibrations, like underwater waves, that ripple out far away. Eventually, the source(s) of the answer ripple an answer-vibration back out to the source of the question. It works, try it 🙂 Let me know what you find 🙂
