I was sent forth from the power,
and I have come to those who reflect upon me,
and I have been found among those who seek after me.
Look upon me, you who reflect upon me,
and you hearers, hear me.
You who are waiting for me, take me to yourselves.
And do not banish me from your sight.
And do not make your voice hate me, nor your hearing.
Do not be ignorant of me anywhere or any time. Be on your guard!
Do not be ignorant of me.

For I am the first and the last.
I am the honored one and the scorned one.
I am the whore and the holy one.
I am the wife and the virgin.
and I am the daughter.
I am the members of my mother.
I am the barren one
and many are her sons.
I am she whose wedding is great,
and I have not taken a husband.
I am the midwife and she who does not bear.
I am the solace of my labor pains.
I am the bride and the bridegroom,
and it is my husband who begot me.
I am the mother of my father
and the sister of my husband
and he is my offspring.
I am the slave of him who prepared me.
I am the ruler of my offspring.
But he is the one who begot me
And he is my offspring,
and my power is from him.
I am the staff of his power in his youth,
and he is the rod of my old age.
And whatever he wills happens to me.
I am the silence that is incomprehensible
and the idea whose remembrance is frequent.
I am the voice whose sound is manifold
and the word whose appearance is multiple.
I am the utterance of my name.

Full Moon at 22 degrees Virgo 13, March 12 2017, 10:54 EDT

Virgo, through its link with the word virgin, is associated with the idea of self-possession. Self possession is the state of being in a relationship of full self-autonomy with one’s vital energies.

This Full Moon reflects a facet of the archetype of Virgo which contains a yearning for the freedom from being beholden to an external authority. That authority could be a moral code, a sense of duty, an offering of Virgo’s sense of service to a cause, tribal beliefs and practices, or any codified system of self improvement or spiritual elevation. This authority can influence the Virgo energies by subtle means of guilt or persuasion or by more overt forms of control.

Both Pisces and Virgo contain this yearning for freedom. This is the axis along which this Full Moon takes place. Both signs in the axis are desirous of different types of transcendence. In its archetypal form, Virgo yearns for purity, cleanliness, order and sanctification – Virgo could enjoy those forms literally – or could just point to re-possessing itself and thus liberating itself from the grime accumulated from being alive. To meet the ends of order, Virgo has a full chest of techniques, tools, methods, and paths to reach a mark that can only be reached by an act of self-reclamation.

Peace is found in the respite that comes from yielding to the forgotten and distant rhythms of nature, and honoring nature’s order by reflecting it in the manner of living life, and by engaging with it with reverence.

Across the sky from the Full Moon, the sign Pisces holds a group of bodies that lead to Mercury in the final degrees of the sign, the ruler of this lunation. Pisces is both deeply impressionable and carries the memories of an ancient sagacity. It understands and effects an instinctual mode of communication that fills in the spaces between the shapes of letters on a page or the sound of words as they escape lips. It is fully sentient, with all the senses of its body and being, of the medium in which all of life is immersed. This medium contains rich data, with its implications and its meanings and vibes. Pisces senses the spoken and unspoken, and responds to its micro shifts, creating a brilliant, genius chemistry, a profound disorientation, and a vacillation between the two poles.

Venus, well into her retrograde cycle, puts another emphasis on self-possession. Venus in Aries retrograde is the the depth of self inquiry. It is a rapturous and ungentle invitation to travel deep into the self. Despite what else may be happening around the Venus retrograde event, meaning no matter what part of life is most demonstrating Venus retrograde features, this symbol is a time of self inquiry into one’s own changes and one’s own landscape of desire and pursuit. Stay tuned for another post on this.

The end of self-possession is the freedom to observe one’s own rhythms to be in command of one’s own nature. It is a deep acceptance of self and of existence. With Saturn in Sagittarius featuring strongly in this lunation, it speaks to that freedom, but it also comes with the weight gravity and responsibility that accompanies awareness and a sense of authorship. It is both about facing the fixed truths of reality, as well as respecting reality’s inherent ambiguity. The lunation speaks to transcendence of personal identification and respect for reality’s multiple different viewpoints. It is about adjusting to the hard lines of external truth with guidance from one’s own inner song – and communicating this with others in as yin or yang a way as feels good.
